D&A Holds SAPA Compliance Certification (SCC) Ceremony for Ocado’s Korean Subsidiary
On December 17, D&A LLC awarded the Serious Accidents Prevention Act (SAPA) Compliance Certification (SCC) to the Korean subsidiary of Ocado Solutions Limited, a U.K.-based retail technology company. This marks a rare case of a foreign company’s Korean subsidiary receiving the SCC, underscoring its greater significance.
Regarding the logistics center under construction in Busan, jointly developed by Ocado and Lotte, D&A has provided legal advice on the overall serious accident response system. By drawing on this advisory, the company is establishing a response system that minimizes the legal risks and potential damages that it may face in the event of a serious accident.
On D&A’s side, the award ceremony was attended by Managing Partner Kyu Chul LEE, Partner Dong Eon CHA (Head of the SAPA Advisory Group), Partner Heejin KIM, Partner Sung Jin KIM (Head of the Strategic Planning Division), Partner Won Hyeok CHOI (Corporate Relations Division Team Leader), and Associate Attorney Boyeon JIN. Key attendees from Ocado included APAC & MEA President Adriano Araujo, Partnerships Director Pulkit Khanna, Project Director Steve Russell, Health & Safety Manager Jayden Kim, and Senior Account Manager Tai Seok Chung.
Managing Partner Kyu Chul LEE, welcomed the attendees, stating, “D&A promises to be the premier partner for Ocado’s business in Korea through legal support and other services. We hope that the SCC award ceremony will serve as an opportunity to publicly demonstrate Ocado’s unwavering commitment to safety management.”
Meanwhile, D&A is the only Korean law firm that provides the SAPA Compliance Certification (SCC). The SCC is issued after a comprehensive assessment of whether the company fulfills the safety and health obligations outlined in Article 4 of the SAPA—including a document review to verify compliance with the evaluation criteria and an on-site inspection by the Korean Industrial Health Association (KIHA). This certification significantly enhances corporate safety management, contributes to preventing serious accidents, and helps mitigate the risk of criminal penalties in the event of an accident.
