On April 9, DR & AJU launched the Advance Senior Life (ASL) Team, the first team in the Korean legal market established by a law firm to focus on the senior industry. 
 

The ASL Team is led by Managing Partner Kyu Chul LEE and is composed of experts from various fields, including Partners Heui Dae KIM, former Vice President at Hana Securities and Hana Financial Group, Jae Ki JUN, Head of the Construction & Real Estate Team, JooHye MOON, Tae Seon LEE, and Senior Advisor Woo Sung BAE. The team’s advisory capacity is further enhanced by the addition of external experts, including Jong Man CHOI, former CEO of Hoban Construction, and Hyung Ki LEE, former Senior Managing Director at HDC Hyundai Development Company, who have joined the team as expert counsels.
 

We have been providing legal counsel for the “University-Based Retirement Community (UBRC)” project since March of last year, in partnership with Tongmyong University and Chosun University. The UBRC is a model that has been implemented for over 30 years at more than 100 universities in the United States, including Stanford University. It represents a new form of senior community that integrates education and welfare. Currently, we are also in discussions with about 10 additional universities in the Seoul metropolitan area. 
 

Looking ahead, the ASL Team plans to be active across the following areas: (1) implementing an age-friendly university model that connects universities' lifelong education functions with senior communities, (2) developing redevelopment-based retirement communities (RBRC) by utilizing aging or underused sites, and (3) providing legal and investment advisory services for various financial products related to senior towns, such as asset management, REITs, and tokenized securities.
