At the awards ceremony held on December 27, 2022, Hankyung Business recognized DR & AJU attorneys Kwan Haeng CHO, Jae Young SHIN, and Kyeong (Catherine) KIM in the Band B 2022 Best Lawyer category in three out of four key fields. The lawyers received an excellence award in the fields of Legal Law, Corporate Litigation, and Corporate Advisory respectively.
Attorney Kwan Haeng CHO, who was named in Legal Law, served as the president of the Association of Korean Civil Judgment Enforcement Law, provided legal advisory and conducted a number of civil and criminal cases. Among these cases, the Seoul Metropolitan Government lost a lawsuit filed by some corporations in Garak Market against the mayor of Seoul, and was remanded (decided in favor of Client) in an appeal that the rules were not unreasonable discrimination and did not infringe on equal rights. In addition, the Supreme Court ruled that the disposition of the head of Gangnam-gu on behalf of the residents was legitimate in an administrative lawsuit seeking permission where the Plaintiff, who intended to change the use of a specific building to a wedding hall, said that the traffic impact assessment was unlawful against the head of Gangnam-gu. Furthermore, an administrative lawsuit filed by a business operator who intended to establish a large-scale poultry farm and scrapyard in Cheongju was ruled in favor of nearby residents to prevent the installation of the facility for environmental protection and residents' living rights. In recognition of such achievements, Mr. CHO was selected as the Best Lawyer in Legal Law.
Attorney Jae Young SHIN at DR & AJU, who was named Best Lawyer for Corporate Litigation, served as a member of the Special Contract Deliberative Committee, Contract System Improvement Committee, and Personnel Committee of the Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. Mr. Shin provides legal advisory on a number of corporate acquisitions, stock sales, and corporate energy projects. In 2022, Mr. Shin was in charge of the disputes of major energy companies that arose during the construction and operation of power plants (the scope of adjustment of contracts in EPC total bidding contracts, compensation for fishing losses, non-fulfillment of contracts due to internal and external changes such as COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war, compensation for damage due to facility defects, and compensation for damage caused by infringement of environmental rights). Based on a detailed review of contract documents, a thorough analysis of relevant laws and regulations, and a review of facilities and industry practices in disputes over investor rights and obligations under joint venture contracts related to development projects, Mr. Shin is highly regarded for communicating with customers and achieving optimal results and was selected as Best Lawyer in Corporate Litigation.
