On July 15, DR & AJU held a webinar titled “Corporate Tax Issues and Legal Challenges.” The webinar was moderated by Mr. Dhong Joo KIM, DR & AJU’s Partner and Head of the Criminal & Compliance (C&C) Group. The panel featured Partners of DR & AJU C&C Group Mr. Byung Jae SHIN, Ms. You Lee JUNG, as well as DR & AJU’s Attorney Mr. Joon Soo HWANG. The panelists presented the key implications derived from an analysis of recent tax evasion cases, examining corporate challenges and explaining the legal fiction of deeming profits from a transaction with a specific corporation as donations, which drew public attention following amendments to the Inheritance and Gift Tax Act and the Commercial Act. In addition, they engaged in an in-depth discussion on the obligation to report foreign financial accounts, the reporting of suspicious transactions by the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit, the recently controversial reduced dividend distributions, and explored the taxation of virtual assets and recent legislative trends.
