The Parliamentary Audit Is Planned to Begin Following Chuseok Holiday, While Tensions Grow Due to a Series of Hacking and Industrial Accidents
The first parliamentary audit since the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung administration is scheduled to take place on October 13, following the Chuseok holiday.
In this audit, a recent series of large-scale hacking incidents is expected to draw particular attention. During the hearing on September 24, lawmakers raised considerable concerns and questions over the company’s intentional destruction of compromised servers and the delayed reporting of the incident. The upcoming audit is also expected to scrutinize the security practices of mobile carriers and the government’s response measures, taking into account the findings from investigations and audits conducted by the police and the joint public-private investigation team.
At the same time, tensions in the construction industry are escalating ahead of the audit under the new administration. Despite the government’s repeated emphasis on the eradication of fatal industrial accidents, deaths from serious accidents have continuously occurred. As a result, representatives from major construction companies have been summoned to appear as witnesses before the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee. In particular, since the construction industry accounts for nearly half of all industrial accidents in Korea, it is expected to face intense questioning and criticism from both the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee and the Environment and Labor Committee. Moreover, Public attention is focused on whether the audit will lead to the legislative improvements aimed at reducing workplace fatalities.
As the first-ever Korean law firm to issue specialized legislative journals, DR & AJU Public Sector Relations Group has been publishing the monthly Policy & Business Report since August 2019. The September 2025 issue of the P&B Report conducted a full inspection of legislation proposed to the National Assembly Subcommittee, Standing Committee, and Plenary Session from the opening of the 22nd National Assembly on August 15, 2025, to September 14, 2025, and selected and analyzed legislation with significant impact on corporate activities. In the case of major legislation, key mentions of legislators, members of the Standing Committee, and government officials are included.
